Baby boy for Douglas and fiancee Zeta-Jones
Ring up an XY for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. Born 5:52 p.m. Tuesday to the affianced twosome was one Dylan Michael Douglas, weighing in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces.
“Everybody’s doing great,” said mom’s publicist Cece Yorke. The baby is Zeta-Jones’ first child and the second for Douglas. And in these modern days, congratulations are in order the child was born after the couple reached their prenuptial agreement.
HEADS WANTED: For those of you who have ever wondered, “Is there anything in this crazy world that’s actually beneath Craig Kilborn?” the answer is yes, at least in eyes of CBS executives. The network apologized Wednesday for a violent anti-George W. Bush message that flashed briefly on the screen last week during the “The Late Late Show,” which Kilborn hosts. The phrase “Snipers wanted” was shown Friday across footage of Bush accepting his nomination as the Republican presidential candidate at the party’s Philadelphia convention.
“This graphic, which was not accompanied by any remarks from Mr. Kilborn, should not have been included in the telecast and is not consistent with our broadcast standards,” CBS said in a statement. The network called the display “an inappropriate and regrettable graphic.” The show’s producer, Worldwide Pants Inc., owned by David Letterman,” issued its own statement that it “deeply regrets this incident.”
A Bush spokesman said the candidate accepted the apology.
“It’s unfortunate something like that has happened,” Bush campaign spokesman Dan Bartlett said from Austin, Texas. “We accept their apology and look forward to seeing the results of their investigation.”
There was no comment from Kilborn.
REVOLVING COURTROOM DOORS: A lot of court drama might not be good for the soul, or at least the godfather of soul. The good news, sort of, is that the miscreant who set fire to James Brown’s office has been uncovered and wouldn’t you know that it was the former security chief.
Richard Glenn, 39, was indicted Tuesday on charges of first-degree arson, theft and three counts of first-degree forgery. He allegedly set fire to James Brown Enterprises to hide the $75,000 check forgery.
Meanwhile, former backup singer Lisa Rushton filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the New James Brown Enterprises on Friday. She alleges that Brown demanded sex in 1994, and cut her performances and pay when she declined. Brown’s attorney had no comment on the suit. Rushton seeks unspecified damages and a jury trial.
HE ONLY PLAYS NEW YORK COPS: Guess who’s coming to “Law & Order”? None other than “Original Gangsta'” and “Cop Killer” crooner Ice-T, who will join the NBC “Special Victims Unit” spin-off of the crime drama. Playing detective Odafin Tutuola, Ice-T reunites with producer Dick Wolf, with whom he has worked on the NBC series “Players” and the Fox show “New York Undercover.”
“Working with Ice is always a pleasure,” Wolf said. “He is a consummate professional, a great actor, a terrific person, and he has a great sense of humor. I am really looking forward to the chemistry (and most likely fireworks) between his character, and (Richard) Belzer’s Detective Munch.” That pairing can’t be stranger than his co-starring with Michael Dudikoff and Tom Arnold in his upcoming action film, “Ablaze.”
DOMESTIC GODDESS LOSES THE APRON: Roseanne will make good on her threat, er, liberated venture to cast off the confinements of outerwear and pose nude. She won’t be following the route of Jessica “I-Did-It-In-a-Revival-Tent” Hahn in “Penthouse” or Darva “Look-What-My-Husband-Didn’t-See” Conger in Playboy. Instead, the 47-year-old actress will go au naturel in the October issue of Gear magazine. Actually, her representative calls it “partial nudity,” but a magazine spokeswoman insists nothing stands between Roseanne and the camera.
While Roseanne has made the feminist claim on talk shows that she’s tired of seeing impossibly sculpted bodies and wants to make her move showing beauty in all forms, her representative says, “She’s happy and wants to let it all hang out.” Someone flog that publicist with a thesaurus.
