Who’s Top Dog? Top 10 Breeds

With apologies to cat lovers, felines just don’t get the kind of online affection that pups command.

People go online for all sorts of dog advice, from name suggestions to training tips. When it come to all-around ogling, the ittiest bittiest Chihuahua is the pack leader on Yahoo! Search, followed quickly by the lean Greyhound and faithful German Shepherd. (And yes, we’ve discounted the Greyhound bus lookups.)

Now, interest doesn’t always align with adoption rates: According to the American Kennel Club, mellow-tempered Labrador Retrievers consistently rank the highest in dog registrations, with German Shepherds and Yorkshire Terriers trading off now and then for the No. 2 and 3 slots. Chihuahuas don’t even make the AKC Top 10.

Why the curiosity but not the commitment? Well, checking out the favorite cheat sheet at Yahoo! Clues, if you compare Labrador Retrievers and Chihuahuas, the latter is definitely far more favored by females than males. When it comes to an actual joint decision, the little guys apparently get punted to the side.

No use howling. Check out who made the canine cut this year:
